The Sound of Music in Salzburg

The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Music.....

Salzburg has been one of Paul and my favourite places in Europe. I hope you enjoy the photos as much as we enjoyed this beautiful city. Its just like in the movie. The air is very crisp and the views are breath-taking. We can't wait till we get home and show you all the photos. It would take about 1 day.

This is the beautiful Mirabell Garden. Even though it was raining on the day the colours of the garden were amazing.

This is a gobble street with shops and resturants. If you look very closely there is a fancy bronze McDonalds sign.

IMGP5466.JPG

This is the one of houses where Mozart grew up. It had all his composition from an early age. I wish I could compose songs when I was 3 years old.

On our second day we went on the Sound of Music Tour. This is a tour guide who was a really funny Austrian man in front of the family house and the lake where the children fell in while rowing.

This is the famous Gazebo where they danced around. It had to be moved from the original location next the the family house because tourist kept climbing over the wall and breaking in. They have now locked it so no tourist can dance on the seats like in the movies.

We had a little break from sound of music to go luge (like in cool runnings but with no snow). It was really fun. Paul and I went on a twin one which went really fast.

This is another gorgeous lake with the mountains in the background.

IMGP5536.JPG

This is the church where they got married. Its very beautiful. I could see why she wanted to get married there. In true life they got married in the church that she left but the nuns wouldn't give them permission. Also there is a mistake in the movie. At the end of the movie they escape over Maria's Mountain however in real life that would have taken them into Nazi headquarters.
Thats hollywood.

I was pretending to be the Vontrap children dancing around the foutain.

IMGP5550.JPG

We also went to see Marionette show of Midsummer Nights Dream. It was very cool even though it was in German.

IMGP5552.JPG

This is Paul posing with the amazing view behind him.

IMGP5555.JPG

I tried the typical Austrian food and beer in the beer garden. I finished my beer but Paul was struggling. The food was really nice. I had these dumplings, sausages and saukraut.

Paul enjoying his stein of Austrian Beer.

This is the whole view of the city with the castle, lakes and surrounded by the moutains.

IMGP5563.JPG

This is another nice fountain at the bottom of the castle. After we went to the concert we went back there and they had big screens with the olympics. We saw some American win the athletics.

IMGP5577.JPG

We had met a girl from New York at the Marionette show. We went with her to have dinner and see a concert in a castle. The food was nice but not very traditionally so afterwards I had to get a sausage.

The string orchestra performed Mozart. It was really lovely and the view was amazing.
