Ten Great Reminders or Sayings You Could Hang On a Wall

I’ve been doing ten ideas a day now for several months, mainly by following the prompts in Claudia Altucher’s book Become an Idea Machine. There are some really interesting “list prompts”, including today’s, number 135, which I summarise as Ten great reminders or sayings you could hang on the wall. I had to cheat a little bit and use my kindle highlights to find quotes that I really loved from some books I’ve read. I’m sure there are many more that I’ve missed, but these are the ones that I came up with:
- Do unto others as you would have them do unto you
- No!
- Do you really need it? Will who you are be diminished by the loss?
- You will bring into your life whatever it is you have the most clarity about
- Take yourself seriously and your life personally
- Experiences > things
- Hope is not a strategy
- Determine and direct your own thinking
- Be helpful and attentive
- The soup of life is salty enough without adding tears to it
The source of these quotes is diverse, including Choose Yourself, Fierce Conversations, The Tao Te Ching, Iain Banks’ Culture series novels, podcasts, and my mum.
I really love some of these, and am tempted to actually print some of them out and put them up at work and home. As James and every other guru says, you need to take action!
