I just read a blog post by Jason Vanish about whether you really take in what you read: http://jasonevanish.com/2013/06/23/do-you-really-read/. I'm going to take his above and start evaluating what I've read with these three questions:

1. Has this taught me anything new and valuable? (If not, move on quickly)
2. How can I apply insights from this article today? (Wait and I’ll forget)
3. When have I applied the ideas from this post? Where have I not, but could have? (What was the difference?)

I suppose I should start with his blog post!

1. I think so. I trend to read a lot of articles and blog posts, consider them briefly while reading them and maybe for a little while after and then continue straight on to the next one. Maybe that's just because I do it while I'm having lunch or waiting for my PC to finish compiling our whatever. Jason argues that unless you actually think about what you read and absorb it and try to turn it into something you can take action from then you've wasted an opportunity, so I will try to do that more from now on, starting with this article!

2. This blog post is a good start. I'll use it as a template for things that I read and try to at least think about these questions, or even write a blog post.

3. I haven't introspected (is that a word?) To deeply about the many articles I read very often, which could mean that I've missed opportunities. I will start to use this template to do so more in the future.
